Hemorrhoids 101

Hemorrhoids 101

While conducting our study on hemorrhoids treatments, we came across a great deal of information on the subject that needed to be evaluated. While some of this information turned out to be false, we did come across some information that we felt had value for those seeking to shrink and prevent their hemorrhoids.

So, we've included on this page information that helps shed some light on natural hemorrhoids treatment and what it entails. Information such as what hemorrhoids are, what causes them, and which ingredients are used primarily to treat them.

bulletHemorrhoids: A Definition

The condition known as hemorrhoids occurs when the network of veins in and/or around the anus and rectum become swollen and raised. Unfortunately, hemorrhoids can occur both internally and externally. External hemorrhoids are painful lumps or swollen areas that form on the outside of the anus. Symptoms of external hemorhoids include: itching and soreness in and around the anus, blood on stool, blood on the toilet, blood on toilet paper, and blood in underwear.

Internal hemorrhoids usually form at the base of the rectum inside the anus just below the tissue lining. The good news with internal hemorrhoids is that they are not always painful. The most common symptoms of internal hemorrhoids are: blood on the stool, blood on the toilet paper, and blood in or on the toilet bowl.

bulletHow Hemorrhoids Occur

Several factors can contribute to the condition of hemorrhoids. Research has shown that activities such as heavy lifting, rigorous coughing, and straining during bowel movements can cause hemorrhoids. Also, frequent constipation, obesity, and pregnancy may put added pressure on the veins in and around the anus, eventually leading to hemorrhoids. Hemorroids seem to occur as a result of pressure being put on the veins of the area.

There are a variety of reasons why some people develop hemorrhoids (especially as they get older) and others don't. Genetics, environmental conditions, and lifestyle all are believed to play a part in the development of hemorrhoids.

bulletNatural Ingredients Used for Hemorrhoids Treatment

While studying hemorrhoids products, we noticed that many of the more successful brands tend to share a list of common ingredients. That is, the key ingredients in many of these formulas were the same. Here is a list of those herbal ingredients that are used the most for treating hemorrhoids:

Horse Chestnut

Oat Straw

Plantain

Cascara Sagrada

Vitamin E

Butcher's Broom

Although this list does not include every ingredient used for the treatment of hemorrhoids in every product currently on the market, it does give you an idea of which herbs are the main drivers.

bulletSummary

After reviewing some of the basics on hemorrhoids, you're probably wondering which products work best to eliminate hemorrhoids. To address that, we've set-up a page listing what we found to be the top herbal hemorrhoids treatments on the market today.
